The Turtle Hospital is located in Marathon on the grounds of the old Hidden Harbor Motel. The hospital rescues and rehabilitates seas turtles of various sizes that are suffering from various illnesses or trauma.
The facility is open to the public in an effort to educate and encourage legislation that will save future generations of turtles. Inside are 23 individual tanks, ranging in size from 150-800 gallons that serve as temporary homes for the turtles.
Veterinarians, biologists and caring volunteers work year-round to help sick turtles recover so they can be returned to the sea.Turtles that are permanently disable have a forever home at the hospital, where they live and play in a giant swimming pool.
Guests are invited to take a guided educational tour of the hospital facilities and the sea turtle rehabilitation area. The tours run daily at 9am, 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm. This educational experience lasts approximately 90 minutes and provides a presentation on sea turtles as well as a behind the scenes look at the hospital facilities and rehabilitation area. At the end of each program guests are invited to feed the permanent residents.
