The Butterfly and Nature Conservancy

The Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservancy tour starts at the Learning center where visitors can watch a short film about butterflies’ life cycle, anatomy, physiology and feeding habits. A large map identifies butterflies from around the world and their country of origin. Learn about the annual Monarch migration from northern parts of the United State to southern California and Mexico. Learn about caterpillars and how they turn into butterflies.

Next head into the conservatory and be delighted by the abundance of butterflies fluttering about. The 5,000 square foot glass building houses over 50 species of butterflies plus tropical plants, a flowing stream, waterfalls, Koi ponds, exotic birds, turtles, flamingos and more. It’s an amazing tranquil oasis on the island.

Finish your visit to the Conservatory by visiting the on-site gift shop and gallery.
