After the Overseas Railroad was ravaged by several hurricanes, the Overseas Highway was built on top of the existing infrastructure. This literally opened the doors, and a flood of car traffic quickly ensued.
To capture the interest of passing motorists, keys businesses, soon began installing large highway signs, painted murals on the side of buildings and roadside curiosities.
Many of these have become iconic keys landmarks.
