Why Do Boats Have Names?

Historically, ships were given names for logistical regions. People needed to be sure they were talking about the same thing. Giving ships specific names, ensured passengers embarked on the right voyage. It was also useful in creating manifests and shipping records.
We still name boats today out of a seafaring tradition. Boat names often refer to the profession of the owner or a philosophy, and they are commonly named after women, because they are considered a thing of beauty to their owners. Plus, telling friends you’re sailing on the “Brad” would just be weird.
