The Key West Historic Seaport and Mallory Square
The seaport is the heart of Key West. Today it us a marina and tourist destination, but for hundreds of years was the lifeblood of the town. It was the main port and the source of most commerce. Salvagers and fisherman delivered fresh fish, sea turtles, sponges, shrimp and other treasures to the docks.
In 1992, the seaport was acquired by the city and developed into a popular destination for tourists and locals to enjoy. Today, you can find everything from boat charters and local art galleries to restaurants with live entertainment.
There are more than 50 local businesses located in the Key West Historic Seaport along with a 150 slip marina with a variety of boating excursions to choose from. You could spend an entire day visiting the museums, enjoying watersports eating at one of the many restaurants. But the highlight of the Seaport is Mallory Square located at the west end of Duvall street. This town square is the home of Key West’s nightly sunset celebration. Tourists and locals alike gather at the square for cocktails, entertainment and to watch the majestic sunsets. This tradition began in the 1960’s and has been celbrated by iconic figures like Mark Twain and Tennessee Williams. The nightly festival hosts visitors from all over the world who come to take part in the magicians, jugglers, clowns, psychics, local musicians, artists, and food vendors that combine for an incredible cultural experience.
