The Flying Monkey Bar at Fogartys

The Flying Monkey Bar at Fogartys

Key West is quite possible the inspiration for Jimmy Buffet’s fabled Margaritaville. Fogarty’s is a casual restaurant located in a historic home built in 1887 by Charles Curry. The home was once home to Dr. Joseph Norman Fogerty, the mayor of Key west from from 1907 to 1915.
In 1971 the property was purchased and turned into Fogerty’s restaurant and the landmark Flying Monkey bar. The Flying Monkey is famous for it’s wall of endless frozen frozen drink machines. The machines constantly spin and churn delicious frozen cocktail mixes. The flavors are truly inventive and include The Rum-runner, Chocohol (Vodka in chocolate ice cream), Banana Breeze, Pina Colada, Mudslide, Pain In the Ass, White Russian and Miami Vice (a mix of Pina Colada and Strawberry Daquiri). It’s a favorite destination and Key West ritual to begin your Duvall crawl with one of these VERY STRONG drinks in a souvenir cup.
