The Fishing Report For August 2018
There’s great fishing predicted for the month of August. In the back country look for an abundance of Redfish, Snook, Black Drum and a few Tarpon. Fish with live shrimp for the best results.
Anglers fishing near shore or from the bridges can expect a decent bite of Snapper, Grouper, Snook and the occasional Tarpon.
Offshore the Dolphin catch is really hot. Fish on the outside of the reef and along weed lines..
Once again we remind boaters to be careful navigating keys waters as hundreds of vessels still remain submerged following hurricane Irma. Everywhere you travel until you get out on the open water will remain a No-Wake zone for the foreseeable future. If you are able, try booking a charter in the lower keys – the captains still really need your business and support.
Regular lobster season continues until March 31st.
For the remainder of the regular season, anglers should be well versed in local regulations.
The bag limit for lobster is six per person, per day.
Anglers must be in possession of a lobster carapace measuring device at all times.
Each angler must possess a recreational saltwater fishing license with a lobster stamp.
Lobsters must be landed in whole condition. Separating the tail from the body is prohibited.
The possession of egg-bearing lobster, is prohibited.
Catching or attempting to catch lobsters using any device which could puncture, penetrate or crush the exoskeleton (shell) or the flesh of the lobster is prohibited.
Lobster cannot be harvested from Florida Everglades National Park or no-take areas of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. To learn more about these regulations visit http://myfwc.com/fishing/saltwater/recreational/lobster/
