The Islamorada Sandbar is located about a quarter mile offshore from the Postcard Inn (Holiday Isle) on the Oceanside of Islmorada off the channel. After a day on the water, Keys boaters congregate here to hang out and party. On holiday weekends hundreds of boats gather in the afternoon hours until sunset.
The water here is only a few feet deep. The bottom is pure white sand. Music blasts from boats as an endless parade of people wade by with cold drinks in hand. The smell and smoke from dozens of Barbeque grills starts to permeate the air. And inflatable rafts, paddleboards, wave runners and other water toys appear.
Closer to shore is the family-friendly end of the sandbar, further out anything goes. Put this stop “high” on your list of things to see and do in Islamorada.
