Discover the History of the Florida Keys

The Florida Keys have a long and storied history. They were first inhabited by the Caloosa Indians. During the 1500’s – 1700’s they served as a hub for privateers, pirates, sponge fishermen and treasure salvers.  In the late 1800’s commercial fishing and tourism became viable industries.  More recently, a vibrant community of famous writers, artists, eccentrics and even presidents have added to the culture of the Keys.
